Gavottes Crêpes Dentelle are fine French biscuits celebrated for their delicate lace-like crunchy texture and subtly caramelised, buttery flavour. Light yet crisp, they have become one of France’s most iconic sweet treats.
The original recipe was discovered by accident in 1888 in the coastal town of Quimper, Brittany. Marie-Catherine Cornic, a local cook, unintentionally left one of her thin crêpes on the stove for too long. She folded and rolled the overcooked crêpe rather than discarding it, creating a surprisingly airy, crunchy bite. Delighted by the delicate layers and melt-in-the-mouth texture, she unknowingly gave birth to what would become the beloved Crêpe Dentelle. Over a century later, Gavottes has refined the production method, but the spirit of this happy accident remains unchanged.
